Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is increasingly used in cardiac arrest, both to look for reversible causes and for prognostication. However, POCUS has also been associated with pulse checks during cardiac arrest, and may cause harm if used inappropriately. This session will describe a standardized approach, the Cardiac Arrest Sonographic Assessment (CASA) exam, which has been shown to decrease the “time on chest” for POCUS. Learn how to incorporate POCUS into your next cardiac arrest using practical tips and tricks to avoid prolonged pulse checks while still getting all the information you need.
Learning Objectives:
After this session, the learner will be able to explain how inappropriate use of POCUS may lead to prolonged pulse checks and potential harm during resuscitation.
After this session, the learner will be able to apply the Cardiac Arrest Sonographic Assessment (CASA) exam to use POCUS during cardiac arrest.
After this session, the learner will be able to implement practical techniques to perform POCUS without prolongation of the time for pulse check.
