Dr. Adam Bloom serves as Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency at the University of Vermont Medical Center and Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He brings exceptional leadership experience in graduate medical education, having progressed through all levels of program administration during his distinguished military career.
Dr. Bloom earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from A.T. Still University, graduating in the top 10% of his class. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where he served as Chief Resident before being selected to remain as core faculty. His rapid advancement through Assistant Program Director, Associate Program Director, and Acting Program Director roles demonstrates his exceptional educational leadership capabilities.
During his ten-year Naval career Dr. Bloom joined the Joint Medical Unit of the Joint Special Operations Command. This assignment took him on multiple deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa, where he provided emergency medical care supporting special operations worldwide.
As an educator, Dr. Bloom has received consecutive "Resident's Choice for Outstanding Faculty" awards. His innovative curriculum development includes courses in Evidence-Based Medicine Instruction and specialized training in prolonged field care for austere environments.
His clinical expertise spans academic medical centers, rural community hospitals, and combat environments, providing him with unparalleled perspective on emergency medicine practice across diverse settings. Dr. Bloom's current interests focus on graduate medical education innovation, end-of-life care in emergency settings, and resource-limited emergency medicine.
