Hematologic/Oncologic emergencies are infrequently occurring conditions, depending on the patient population you work with. However, when they occur, they are absolutely essential to be identified and managed properly otherwise we run the risk of making the patient’s condition exponentially worse. Several international societies over the last 3 years have provided updated recommendations for the management of pediatric and adult febrile neutropenia. This lecture will take a closer look into these guidelines to ensure we are all providing the most updated care possible to this vulnerable population.
Learning Objectives:
Familiarize themselves with the current definitions of neutropenia.
Describe current diagnostic testing and recommended antibiotic regimens from the leading panels and societies on oncologic care.
Continue to know when and how to employ current guidelines regarding inpatient versus outpatient management for febrile neutropenia.
