Emergency cardiology conditions are high risk, and the ECG is often the key test that determines, early in the patient's course, the direction of management. If the ECG is misinterpreted, however, it can lead the treating physician astray and lead to disastrous patient outcomes. In this talk, I will discuss an assortment of ECG cases in which misinterpretations led to adverse outcomes. Audience members will learn from these cases so they will not duplicate the mistakes in their own practice.
Learning Objectives:
Diagnose some dysrhythmias that are commonly misread by the ECG computer and by treating physicians.
Recognize some mimics of ventricular tachycardia and understand the dangers of following routine ACLS guidelines for wide complex tachycardias.
