You know how to have a goals of care conversation. But what's next? What if there was a world in which patients who elect to focus on symptomatic management rather than restorative care can avoid unnecessary hospital time, utilize fewer hospital resources, all without taking up hours of your bandwidth? This talk focuses on the details of transitioning a patient to symptom-based care and disposition options from the emergency department. The session will cover an introduction to hospice philosophy, the benefits and support offered by hospice, and teach how to engage these services from the emergency department to better care for patients that do not benefit from further hospitalization.
Learning Objectives:
Describe hospice benefits and services, including locations offered and multidisciplinary support.
Understand the steps to enroll patients in hospice services from the emergency department.
