In the post legalization era of recreational marijuana, high doses of cannabinoids are readily available at the local dispensary if you are over 21. However, when a child sees those “grown up” blueberry gummy bears their mother’s purse, there can be dire consequences. This talk will cover how easy access to marijuana affects the pediatric population and how legalization has contributed to a significant increase in toxic ingestions and cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. This presentation will address cannabinoid toxicity in pediatric patients as well as current treatment recommendations.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the most common presentations of pediatric cannabinoid toxicity and describe the clinical course of serious ingestions
Utilize the most current evidence based practices in treating cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome
Demonstrate an understanding of how legalization of marijuana has had unintended consequences for pediatric populations
